Things You Should Consider For IB Math AA

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is an excellent choice, and I applaud your decision. We know that you are already beginning to sense the anticipation, as well as the anxiety, that comes with the two years of rigorous but ultimately rewarding study that lie ahead of you. Lots of choices need to be made when you are in the process of deciding which IB topics or ib math aa to take.

There are a lot of considerations that should go into making the right decisions for you since the courses you select will shape your academic trajectory for the following two years.

One may choose between two math tracks, one at the Higher Level (HL) and the other at the Standard Level (SL): Mathematical Applications and Interpretations and Mathematical Analysis and Approaches. The previous system consisted of three primary topics: Maths Studies, Standard, and Higher.

The first group of students is preparing for their final examinations in May 2021; the fresh subjects have just replaced them. Because of the recent transition, there aren’t many tools available to assist families and kids in making sense of everything and choosing what’s best for them.

There are many factors to consider while deciding on an IB Math AA level, including how much you enjoy the subject and your professional and academic objectives for the future.

Topics in Mathematics: Their Use and Interpretation:

Mathematics AI, which stands for Mathematics: Applications and Interpretations, focuses more on the practical applications of mathematical principles to address issues in the sciences, economics, and other areas of human existence. Thus, AI is designed to appeal to students who are particularly curious about the real-world applications of mathematics.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) suggests that students enrolled in Maths AI should get 150 hours of instruction to cover the course content, with HL candidates receiving an extra 90 hours. Here are the five topics covered at both levels:

Functions in Number Theory and Algebra

Trigonometry and Algebra

Students in Probability and Statistics Calculus HL go more deeply into each subject, covering subtopics with more complexity and depth, than students in Probability and Statistics Calculus SL. There is an additional paper (the dreaded Paper 3!) on the last exam for HL students, as there is for other disciplines.

In Maths AI, rather than Maths AA, you will be expected to become proficient in using your graphic display calculator, or GDC. We want you to use technology to swiftly resolve issues that would be very laborious and time-consuming to do by hand. Teaching will extensively use graphing and financial apps, rapid equation solvers, and strategies for making the most of these tools.

While it’s lovely that you’ll be able to use a graphic calculator on all of your exams, remember that the questions are designed to be answered with a GDC, so you’ll need to be proficient with it if you want to perform well. You can have insufficient time if you attempt excessive queries by hand.

Students looking to pursue careers in the social sciences, statistics, commerce, or areas of biology and chemistry, where a deeper understanding of abstract mathematics is not strictly required, may find Maths AI to be an appropriate supplement. A mathematician interested in artificial intelligence may go into design, psychology, or even specific areas of economics.
